My Melbourne, an anthology that premiered in Australia and New Zealand on 6th March 2025, has already captured the attention of audiences, and was released in India on 14th March 2025. Co-presented by Visit Victoria, the film unites four of India’s most renowned filmmakers—Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Onir, and Rima Das—who collaborate on this innovative storytelling project to explore the vibrant essence of Melbourne.

This anthology, with four distinct stories focused on identity and belonging, revolves around the themes of sexuality, gender, disability, and race. The narratives, based on real-life events, bring forth unique and diverse perspectives, celebrating inclusion and diverse voices.

Set in Melbourne’s multicultural landscape, the film delves into the personal journeys of four characters, each navigating their own challenges. The release on 14th March marks the Indian audience’s opportunity to experience these powerful stories that highlight struggles, healing, and the importance of inclusivity.

NANDINI – Directed by Onir, this story follows Indraneel, a queer Indian man, as he reunites with his estranged father in Melbourne to perform a traditional ritual. It delves into their complicated relationship, exploring forgiveness and the healing process through grief.

JULES – Directed by Arif Ali and creatively guided by Imtiaz Ali, this story centers on Sakshi, a newlywed woman who forms an unexpected bond with Jules, a homeless woman. Their connection helps them both confront personal challenges and highlights the power of human connection.

EMMA – Directed by Rima Das, this narrative follows a talented deaf dancer struggling with self-doubt and discrimination. After meeting another deaf dancer, she finds the strength to embrace her uniqueness and overcome her struggles.

SETARA – Directed by Kabir Khan, this real-life inspired story tells the journey of a 15-year-old Afghan girl who, after fleeing the Taliban, starts a new life in Melbourne. Amidst family tensions and past trauma, she finds belonging through cricket and resilience. The actress portraying Setara plays herself, bringing her real-life experience to the screen.
